Feminists :: essays research papers
Feminists     While surfing the internet yesterday I came across an hold discussingwomen and their role in a changing society. The article, which was compose byKarin Crosbie stated that although women have come a long expression in the field ofwomens rights, there is still a long demeanor to go. Crosbie stated that she is a feminist, and as a feminist it is her responsibility to uplift that action is takento further the cause of the women by any center necessary. She explains thatwomen should not have to prove anything to men by such means as shaving theirlegs, nor conform by covering up the ingrained self with makeup.     I agree with the overall concept she is trying to convey, I feel thatwomen do need to take action, and that not all opportunities argon yet equal. Theproblem I have with her article is the image that she and separate contemporaryactivists are coveying to the rest of society.     When I think of a feminist two pictures come into mind. The first, whichmaybe a little outdated is a women care Susan B. Anthony, someone fighting forreal issues that matter. The second is of a women like the author above, someonewho is extreme just to be extreme. To my disappointment it seems the after isbecoming more prevalent within society.     After reading the article I scrolled down the page to where it listed"more feminist links", the flipper that were given consisted of three lesbianrights pages, and two "neo-feminist pages". Thinking this must be only a smallpercentage of feminist pages which were given by this specific author, I wentback and searched many of the feminist pages on the weave myself. To my unpleasantsurprise it turned out that almost all were expressive of the same extreme theme.     So what does the current great deal of feminists as a whole mean to society? Ifeel that the current view of feminists is detrimental t o the womens movement.One reason is that I feel the current views expressed by Crosbie are not onlyunattractive but in a way repulsive. Once women could be proud to say they werefeminists. right away it is some kind of extreme word that places you amongstradicals. This image could turn away perspective activists who would be majorcontributors to the movement. Another reason is that the focus has render moreon trivial extremities then on real issues. No one cares if women shaves herlegs or not, and although it might be some kind of symbolical stand I feel it is a
